The North Hills has many ZIP codes with $300K+ homes, but the highest in metro isn't there

When it comes to the largest concentrations of high-end homes, look to the North Hills. But for the tippy-top most expensive median prices, look to the south.

Among the 16 ZIP codes that had median home values topping $300,000 in the Pittsburgh metro, seven of them were in the northern tier of the Pittsburgh metro — from Cranberry, Mars, Wexford and Gibsonia to Sewickley and Fox Chapel. The highest-priced area in the North Hills was Mars/Seven Fields (16046), which just topped $400,000 at $402,200.

But for the priciest place to look for real estate: Say “Presto” — ZIP Code 15142 that is.

The small hamlet in between Bridgeville and Oakdale has fewer than 1,400 people and only 786 homes. But the average value of an owner-occupied home in the 15142 ZIP code is almost $590,000, $145,000 more than the next highest-priced community. That would be nearby Venetia (15367), just to the south of Upper St. Clair (15241) and Bethel Park (15102). Venetia’s median home value was about $442,000 with a population of about 9,500.

Three of the communities topping $300,000 were in the City of Pittsburgh, including Nos. 3 and 4 — the Central Business District (15222) and 15232 (Shadyside and Friendship), each among the five areas topping $400,000 for median home values.

Out of 257 ZIP Code Tabulation Areas, which are geographic areas roughly equivalent to the Postal Codes, 32 were between $200,000 and $300,000 for median home values, 75 were between $150,000 and $200,000, 85 were between $100,000 and $150,000 and 47 came in below $100,000 for median home values, according to the most recent U.S. Census data, estimates for 2021.

Among the lowest were Braddock (15104), at just less than $48,000 and Duquesne (15110), Wilmerding (15148) and McKeesport (15132) in the low $50,000s.
