Kinderhook manor sells for $2.6 million, and more top home sales

Buyers in August wanted exclusivity — at properties that ranged from a Columbia County manor with ties to the American Revolution, to a penthouse condo in Saratoga, to a federal-style home designed for lovers of the color green near Samascott Orchards.

Two of the region’s top home sales for August included properties in Kinderhook, which has become one of the region’s hottest markets as people from New York City expand their home search north.

With 5,800 square feet of living space, the five-bedroom home has detailed formal rooms, a main-level guest suite, modern kitchen, family room, recreation room, and a porch.

“It’s one of the most historically important houses in all of New York,” Gates said.

Gates listed the property two years ago at $2.95 million, and then reduced the price to $2.65 million this year.

“The seller felt a source of stewardship around the home and the new buyer shares that sense of stewardship,” Gates said. “It’s a house connected to American history in so many ways because of who built it and who lived there and all the folks who visited the house.”

Gates said it was the second-highest sale ever in town.
