Herschel Walker's wife lists Buckhead house for $1.45M

Herschel Walker, the former Georgia football star and ex-Republican Senate candidate, is on the move again.

Walker’s wife, Julie M. Blanchard, is selling the Buckhead house, according to a listing by Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International. Blanchard is asking $1.45 million for the house. Betsy Akers and Morgan Akers are the list agents.

Walker declared the house to be his residence during his 2022 U.S. Senate campaign, noted the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which first reported the listing.

The College Football Hall of Fame running back lost to Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock by about 97,000 votes — or roughly 2.7% — in a December 2022 runoff election.

Blanchard bought the house in 2002, according to Fulton County property records. She had listed it for sale and asked about $1.3 million in 2020, per First Multiple Listing Service.

Walker played for the Georgia Bulldogs from 1980 to 1982 and helped the “Dawgs” to a national championship in his freshman season. His final year at Georgia saw the Wrightsville native win the Heisman Trophy, college football’s most prestigious individual award.

He played 12 NFL seasons and spent most of his career with the Dallas Cowboys. Prior to his Senate campaign, Walker lived in Texas for decades, the AJC reported in 2021.

The Buckhead house owned by Blanchard has an appropriate Georgia red front door. It has three bedrooms and four bathrooms and spans a little less than 3,000 square feet, according to the listing.

The house sits on a hill on about 1.5 acres. There are vaulted ceilings in the main-level primary bedroom suite, which includes an updated bathroom and large closets. There are guest bedroom suites on the main and lower terrace levels.

The house has an updated kitchen, and its finished attic could be used as a playroom or storage space. The sunroom looks over the backyard, and the back porch is built around a tree.

The house was built in 1932, per the listing, which advertises it as a potential candidate for a renovation or new build.

The house is within Buckhead’s affluent Mt. Paran/Northside neighborhood. During the 12 months ending Aug. 31, there were 26 home sales in the neighborhood with a median price of about $2.6 million. The median sale price across the city of Atlanta during that period was $410,000.
