Atlanta Braves legend Tom Glavine sells Milton house for $3.4 million

Tom Glavine just picked up another win.

Glavine, the Atlanta Braves legend and Hall of Fame pitcher, and his wife, Christine, sold their Milton house on Sept. 22 for $3.35 million, according to Fulton County property deeds. It was an off-market sale. Paul Wegener of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty represented the Glavines in the transaction.

Michael R. Berte and Stephanie A. Berte, as trustees of the Berte Family Trust, bought the house. Mike Berte is president at Atlanta-based mortgage lender AmeriSave Mortgage. David Kaufman of Atlanta Fine Homes represented the buyers.

The Glavines had owned the house since 2019, when they bought it for a little more than $2 million. They moved to Milton from Johns Creek at the time. Wegener brokered the sale of the Glavines’ Johns Creek house, as well.

The Glavines have left metro Atlanta and are now full-time residents of Florida, Wegener told Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Tom Glavine played 17 seasons with the Braves. He pitched for the team from 1987 to 2002 and again in 2008, his final season as a major-leaguer. He also spent five seasons with the New York Mets.

During his time with the Braves, Glavine made eight Major League Baseball All-Star Games and won two Cy Young Awards, an honor given annually to the best pitchers in MLB’s American and National leagues. He won two games during the 1995 World Series, including an eight-inning, one-hit, shutout performance in the Braves’ championship-clinching Game 6, and was named Most Valuable Player of the series.

Glavine is one of just 24 pitchers in MLB history to achieve at least 300 career regular-season wins. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014, the first year in which he was eligible.

The Milton house spans about 8,000 square feet and sits on a 1.25-acre lot, according to a previous listing. It has an open floor plan, five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

The kitchen has double islands and views to the family and keeping rooms. The main level also includes a laundry room off the kitchen, two offices and the primary bedroom suite with two walk-in closets. There are three large bedrooms, a playroom and second laundry room upstairs. On the basement level is a theater room, full-size bar, home gym, and steam room and shower. The walk-out, fenced and private backyard includes a saltwater pool, two putting greens, a built-in gas grill and bar.

Milton, a North Fulton municipality about 30 miles up Georgia 400 from Downtown Atlanta, is one of the metro area’s hottest housing markets for affluent buyers.

There were 79 home sales with a median price of about $1.2 million in the suburb during the three months ending Sept. 30, according to First Multiple Listing Service data. That median price was 11% higher compared to the same three-month period in 2022.

Jenny Doyle, a broker with Atlanta Fine Homes who specializes and lives in Milton, told the Chronicle last year that the suburb is popular among metro Atlantans looking for more space, and it’s a haven for celebrities. Doyle said she has worked with “a lot” of Braves players who bought homes there. She has counted John Smoltz, another Braves pitching legend, among her neighbors.
