Real estate firms on North Carolina coast merge as luxury home market heats up

A pair of real estate firms serving the North Carolina coast are merging as the beach market continues to boom.

Landmark Sotheby’s International Realty of Wilmington is merging with Buy the Beach Realty of Kitty Hawk to expand its footprint in the Outer Banks. Kelly Dean, founder and owner of Buy the Beach Realty, along with agents Tamara Forshaw and Michelle Donohue, will join Sotheby’s and work out of the company’s office in Duck.

Landmark Sotheby’s specializes in luxury beach properties, a market that has seen incredible growth in North Carolina since the onset of the pandemic led to a flood of people moving to the coast, driving up home prices. Landmark Sotheby’s opened an Outer Banks office at the end of 2022.

Recently, Landmark Sotheby’s was involved in a record-setting deal in Wrightsville Beach for a $10 million home.

“Kelly Dean and her team have a reputation of providing elite customer service to their clients over their years in the Outer Banks and make an excellent addition to Landmark Sotheby’s International Realty’s mission of delivering the highest quality of service and results that exceed the expectations of a discerning clientele in every transaction,” said Daniel Malechuk, CEO of Landmark Sotheby’s International Realty.

Dean said, “We look forward to taking our business to the next level as we are now able to offer our clients the power of Sotheby’s International Realty’s unparalleled marketing tools and resources, an unmatched global reach and exposure for listings, and the ability to attract more qualified buyers for the region’s finest homes.”
